Looking Forward to 2023
January 1, 2023
November, December, and January are the prime months to start looking ahead to spring and summer trip planning. These are a few things I always try to keep in mind:
- Reservations aren’t always open year-round. Find the locations you’d like to explore and research the park options. In Washington, state parks that are open year-round can be reserved far in advance. Awesome! However, if it’s a popular state park there probably won’t be many sites available.
- TIP: Join a relisting group on Facebook. You can get last minute hard to reserve spots. . .but you better be ready to go.
- Start booking early for holiday weekends. The big players in summer are Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends.
- TIP: Book these in November if possible.
- Look for private RV parks and campgrounds. While these are sometimes more expensive – and less impressive – than a state park, they usually don’t fill up as quickly. It’s a trade-off for not having prime access to a certain location, but chances are you’ll still be able to explore what you came to see.
- Don’t count on full refunds! It’s important to factor this into the equation because life happens, and things change. Review the cancellation terms and be comfortable with them before you put in your payment information.
Why do we love state parks?
They’re usually key locations with private sites and nature right at your fingertips. Typically, you’ll also find well maintained trails and facilities.
Here’s what we’re looking forward to in 2023:
